I left my 1 year old frisky golden retriever with a trainer in Colorado for a 14 day intensive training for $2,000 while I attended class out of state for the same duration of time. Within 24 hours of having my dog in one of their trainers care.....one of the trainers dogs BIT off half of one of my dogs ears!!!!!!!

I was thousands of miles away and had to complete my class for my job beforeI could return. It was a horrible thing for both me and my dog. Now he hates all other dogs and I cant even take him to doggie parks. So if you want your dog mentally and physically damaged for life....

just have it trained with the "SIT means BIT" team!!! That's what $2,000 will get with no refund or compensation other than taking care of the vets bills and traumatizing my dog!!!!

Location: Littleton, Colorado

You sound so ridiculous. If you felt the collar you would see it is no worse that an stem used on people for muscles.

Also My dog went through the program and is still incredible lovable and fun loving. It didn't change his personality at all. Also the "shock" doesn't hurt. I can keep it in my hand up on level "7" the highest on the collar.

Think about it logically...... when you see two dogs playing hard. Just having a great time.... Barking, growling, biting, sticking their butt up in the air running around body slamming each other....

just lovin it up. Lets see you play like that with them...... Do you seriously think dogs feel the same way we do..... Do you honestly think that we could walk away unharmed if a dog got mad and attacked us like they do other dogs in a fight....

No we wouldn't.... They have a higher pain tolerance and if I (a girl) can handle the feeling of the collar lord knows my dog can. I love my dogs. I am involved in rescue, I foster, I doggie sit, when someone knocks on my door my house sounds like a darn kennel...

I have a lot of experience with dogs. Unfortunately you got a bad trainer.... Keep your focus on that... Everyone involved with the program isn't a bad, abusive trainer..

I'm sorry you ended up with one..

I understand why your mad. I would be furious as well...

I can tell from someone whose uses sit means sit that in 6 months time my dog knows her boundaries and is still a great 1 year old lab puppy. She still loves to play but I know I can fully trust and simply use it as an attention getter for her.

I rarely have to use it and I don't shock the *** out of her or use as a form of punishment. You can accuse this corporation all you want, but at the end of the day it's about you be responsible and knowing your dogs limits.

This is just flat out untrue on so many levels. My dogs have gained confidence and are no longer aggressive after training with Sit Means Sit.

My dog who used to *** people is now a social butterfly. Used appropriately, SMS is an amazing training method.

I used a sit means sit in ohio and my dog ends up sick I mean deathly sick from them the handler pulled so hard with her her nails were bleeding she ended up with septic arthritis....they won't give a refund they wont continue to work with us they actually stole all the blankets and toys I sent with my dogs and as they were misplaced and would replace but they never did that with just to see photos posted of other dogs using my toys it was the worse thing ive ever put my dogs threw and I wish I could save others from making the same mistakes my dog has permanent damage to her leg and she's not even 2yrs old yet pain well over $3000 to save her life not to mention the $1600 I lost out on to this company I dont think my dog will ever be social now because of them

Sit Means Sit is an abusive way to "train" a beloved family member! Within 40 minutes the trainer destroyed the spirit of our dog.

He was a bully, he zapped her on the highest level possible with the so called "training" collar, which is exactly the same thing as a shock collar. It beats the dog into submission, using the shock collar, which he told me upfront he would not do. Our dog after 40 minutes hid in the bedroom the rest of the day. She was salivating uncontrollably and hyperventilating and shaking.

I felt like a perpetrator had just been let loose on my sweet dog. They suck you in with the so called "get to know your dog" meeting. This first meeting the trainer won't even acknowledge that your dog is in the room. Their goal at that first meeting is to get you signed up and get your money.

The reason they don't acknowledge your dog in the first meeting is because they do not know how to train a dog unless they use the horrible shock method and they know if you see this you will not allow them to get to your dog. They don't even give you a copy of your contract or a receipt. They make excuses for why they can't give you a copy at that time. They make sure to wait at least a week for your check to clear the bank before they come to the first "training" session.

I have never witnessed such abuse on a sweet dog. My daughter and I watched in horror as he man-handled and drug around a very what used to be compliant dog. She tried to hide under the table, behind the couch, finally she hid behind my daughter and that's when I said enough. The entire time he had the shocking device in his hands he had it on high, not the lowest setting which he himself determined was her setting.

These people break the spirit of your family pet for no reason.

Don't let them get their hands on your beloved dog. :cry

Both me and my daughter (different states) went through the SMS program and both did a demonstration at the "free demo" and worked with our dogs that day before we signed anything. We both saw such a difference in just that hour demo that we signed up.

My daughters dog used to spend his life in a kennel at home while she was at work, went on hikes on the weekend because he was out of control. Now he goes to work with her every day. They are never apart. He is good off a leash and even goes to community events to show people that "Pit Bulls" are loving and friendly dogs.

He even does a kissing booth lol. My boy I can't take to work but if I was allowed I for sure would. In my experience it's a great program. Maybe you just got a horrible trainer.

My advice..... Ask them to demo their dog at least and if they ignore your dog at the free consult....

don't go with them. I wouldn't.

guess what? Your dog can be bitten anytime another dog is around.

SMS (Sit Means Sit) has trained 4 of my dogs and dozens of friends dogs. If you are taught to use the collar correctly, your trainer will tell you that the dog shouldn't recognize it as a "negative response". It shouldn't be used as a punishment, only to get their attention.

However, I have held the collar and had someone press the button. I had to put it down after feeling the #7 setting, and my collars go to 8.

Guess what???? My dog was never aggressive before those *** got ahold of my dog!!!

It's not about getting bit... the *** trainer was too busy skiing and left my dog unattended and with others too!!! You don't know the whole story!!!!

Not only did my dogs ear get bitten off by the "Sit Mean's BIT" trainer's dog... he has since HATED ALL dogs and it ruined him for life!!!!

I'm sorry to hear that happened. I would be so upset.

But don't you think that is more of the individual trainers fault than "All Sit means Sit" programs. My dog and my kids dogs were trained with them (we live in different states) and our dogs were fine and the program worked incredibly well very quickly.

I feel that if you have a bad trainer you should call out that trainer by name and location but that doesn't mean "All" trainers and "All" locations are bad. Just my thought.

I think what people forget is that a dogs pain tolerance is so much higher than a persons. Can you imagine if they played with us like they do with eachother lol

doggydiva- Isn't it terrible? using electricity to contract a muscle from a remote control?

It is so cruel. You will never believe this, its even worse than what those evil dog trainers do. I was at the Chiropractor last week for back pain and he used.....I can barely bring myself to say it ....electricity to stimulate my muscles! I was tortured!

(ok Im done with the sarcasm). Sit Means Sit provides one of the best training services for the average Joe period. Dogs fight. *** happens.

Sounds like the situation was handled professionally by Sit Means Sit. rjborrego is a sensationalist who got caught.

Bull*** finn188. You are exactly the type of dog owner who wants a robot, not a family pet.

And by the way, your "sarcasm" puts into light exactly the type of person who does not need a family pet. ****** does happen you are correct. *** is exactly what your dishing out on here. Too bad you will never know the love of a dog.

A dog trained in this fashion is only behaving because he will be abused if he doesn't. This is sickening!

I agree with ANGRY !!!!

Finn188....

First of all I am not a sensationalist who got caught. They handled the situation so unprofessionally it isn't even funny or to be taken lightly!

SIT means BIT is the worst !!! You must be sleeping with the "Sit Means Bit" president or his wife!!! He was an *** too!!!!

Like you!!! You are SICK finn188!!!

I run the Littleton Sit Means Sit and I would like to know who you really trained with because this is not me. I take a tremendous amount of pride in what I do and I would really like to get to the bottom of this. My number is 720-362-****.

You have no pride in what you do. If you did, you wouldn't work for that company.

You have no training other than what they gave you, if you did, you wouldn't work for that company.

By definition, what you do is abuse. By science, what you do is abuse.

By definition, you are a fraud.

I feel bad that dogs have to suffer from your negligence.

My regret is that your ilk does not face punishment for your crimes.

I call bull *** to this complaint. I know the trainer and I am very aware of what happened.

You had your dog trained with David for dominant and aggressive behavior. The *** to the ear was actually a cut to the very tip of the ear. the vet had to remove a small section to make it easier to stitch the ear. He finished out the board and train, your request, that is why there was no refund on the training.

You also received three follow up lessons with David and a trainer from another location.

The vet bills were covered and you chose to continue the training. So I call bs on your complaint, because some was true but most was grossly exaggerated.

I doubt he exaggerated at all. There are three types of dog owners.

The first type is the kind that ties the dog and doesn't interact at all. The second type is the kind that uses harsh electronic devises to beat the dog into submission. This is no different than beating the dog with a whip or 2 x 4. The third type is the type that uses positive reinforcement (not shocking them) and works consistently with their dog.

It will take me three weeks to undo what he took from her in 40 minutes.

What will happen to the dog after this type of intense abusive training is one of two things. First, the dog will become completely compliant with nothing left inside from their previous personality. Second, the dog will become more timid and eventually more aggressive. How about let's train the Sit Means Sit people using their own technique.

That would mean every time they did a good thing, we will shock them. Hmmmmmโ€ฆ.I wonder how long they would allow this before they either bit us, or called the cops. My dog goes everywhere with me and we show her love and consistent discipline without pain. We are definately always in control of her but with mutual respect for each other.

The only reason we went with them is to take her to a higher level of training. Sit Means Sit has absolutely no idea how to train a dog without harsh pain. If you do not feel love and compassion for your dog then by all means take them to Sit Means Sit. You will have a very well-abused-trained animal.

You will not however have even a glimpse of your old dog's personality. :(

This company uses shock collars to train dogs, so why would biting an ear be a surprise??? I think it's hideous that shock companies are using terms such as "tap" or "reminder" or "vibration" to describe the fact that what's really happening is that a shock is being applied to the dog until they exhibit the required behavior, then the shock stops.

Or, they use shock to deter a behavior. There are modern, scientifically sound methods that use NO harsh techniques, and are much LESS likely to cause a dog to associate the trainer with scary stimuli (which can, as this customer describes, make dogs hate certain categories of people or other dogs).

The Pet Professional Guild is the only organization that requires its trainers to refrain from using choke, prong, or shock collars, and has an ethics committee to which consumers can complain if those guiding principles are violated.

The PPG aren't the only organisation that requires it's trainers refrain from certain tools and adhere to a code of ethics, although it is the only global organisation to have such requirements :)
